Best Neighborhood Cafe in Minneapolis Minneapolis 2014 - Victory 44
Whenever you move into a new house or apartment, one of the best parts of settling in is discovering all the nearby places you're likely to frequent: where you'll get your morning coffee, your happy hour beer, and your reliable weeknight dinner. If you're a resident of Camden in north Minneapolis, it's likely that Victory 44 provides all those things. When chef Erick Harcey has a dish on the menu that is described simply as "carrots," you can bet your bottom dollar it won't just be a vegetable on a plate. Harcey showcases all the best textures a piece of produce has to offer — baked, pureed, powdered, raw, pickled — often all in one dish, and somehow it always works. Enjoy snack plates like spicy and saucy Korean meatballs; larger plates like buckwheat pasta with octopus; all manner of dishes topped with a 62-degree egg and spheres of cheese; and of course, the Perfect Burger, which truly lives up to its name. Brunch is equally good and full of surprises, not least of which is how much we liked the salted caramel corn latte, which starts with popcorn-infused milk.
