Best Neighborhood Minneapolis 2014 - North Loop
Ever since Target Field opened on its southwest edge in 2010, this neighborhood has been on the upswing. Condos and apartments such as Dock Street Flats have seemingly sprung up overnight. Along with the increase in population has come the opening of several higher-end bars and restaurants to serve them. Among them is Smack Shack — home to the city's best live lobsters — and Black Sheep pizza, which offers coal-fired pies with gourmet toppings. Yet the North Loop hasn't lost its gritty roots — both Sex World and Déjà Vu are just a short stroll away — giving it some of the feel of Times Square before Disney took over. Amply served by public transportation, including the terminus for the new Northstar Commuter Rail, the North Loop embodies the goal of cities to reduce dependency on individually owned cars. With so much momentum, the North Loop is only going to get more expensive and more gentrified in the future, so if you ever wanted to live within walking distance of the Twins, now's the time to move in.
