Food trucks go brick-and-mortar
Starting around 2009, the Twin Cities went crazy for food trucks. Everywhere you turned, a new, brightly painted truck was open for business and slinging high-quality, crowd-pleasing, budget-friendly food from a modest mobile kitchen parked on Nicollet Mall or around Mears Park or outside one of many new small breweries. But this last year, the mobile revolution took a direction that few saw coming and some felt was against nature: It moved indoors. With popular trucks like veg-friendly Foxy Falafel, inventive World Street Kitchen, and crustacean station Smack Shack already open, plus Gastrotruck and the English-themed Potter's Pasties slated for stationary restaurants in 2013, customers are able to enjoy their favorite street food even in the off season. In fact, it challenges the notion that trucks need to even have an off-season.
