It's not the cheapest, but if you're looking to treat yourself to the finest public golf experience in the Twin Cities, head to Rush Creek in Maple Grove. The 18-hole course underwent a makeover a little over a half-decade ago and has been raking in accolades ever since. Some even argue that the course is finer than Pebble Beach. We wouldn't go quite that far, but we will say that the burgers at Rush Creek's clubhouse are second to none, as is the view from the clubhouse's ballroom. As far as the on-course experience goes, Rush Creek's Scottish-themed design manifests itself in wide fairways and fast greens. In other words, it's a fun place to play whether you want to hit the ball hard or show off your putting acumen (though you have to be good at both to excel). The course also has a pleasing rustic look despite being just 20 minutes away from the heart of the city. Put it all together and there's no finer golf outing at a course where you don't have to be a card-carrying club member.
