Minneapolis's mayoral wannabees

When R.T. Rybak announced that he would not seek a fourth term as mayor of Minneapolis, he kicked off the city's first mayoral race without an incumbent in 20 years. Right away, a full field of contenders sprung up to vie to replace him. And with them came any good campaign's requisite dramas: no fewer than three competitive City Council members, with their attendant history of spats and controversial votes. A Republican long shot. A handful of re-emergent political retirees. Even more prospective candidates' names are churning the rumor mill. So who will emerge to fill Rybak's crowd-surfing shoes? Still too early to call, but as the would-be mayors debate, grandstand, and fundraise their way into November, at least they'll give us something to watch.
