Every Friday during Lent (except Good Friday) beginning at 4:30 p.m., the spacious basement in the Church of St. Albert the Great fills up with hungry people looking to satiate themselves with delicious tilapia. Cars line the surrounding blocks, and the church even hires a shuttle to pick people up from overflow parking at a nearby lot. The fish fry has become famous in its own right, and with good reason. The food is both excellent and plentiful, and the church offers a lively, family-friendly atmosphere. While you're indulging, you can also play Bingo or join a raffle. A meal runs $10 for adults, $9 for seniors, and $5 for kids, and anyone five or younger eats free. You have a variety of food options, including the choice of fried or baked tilapia, cheesy mashed potatoes or hash-brown wedges, coleslaw, and spaghetti with veggie marinara sauce — not to mention a table filled with homemade desserts. Just one piece of advice: Arrive early.
