Best Day Trip Minneapolis 2013 - Winona

207 Lafayette St.

Winona, MN 55987

Map & Details>>

Part of the fun of a day trip is the journey there and back, and if you take Highway 61 south of the Twin Cities, you can hug the Mississippi River on your way to the state's corner and the Winona area. What do you have when you get there? A beautiful old Main Street, plenty of intriguing places to visit, and an overall charm that permeates the city and surrounding area. For the outdoors lover, there are plenty of parks to explore in the nearby Mississippi River bluffs. For those who are into the arts, museums and galleries are packed with unique creations and insights into the history of the region. Theatergoers can head down in the summer for the Great River Shakespeare Festival, often with one of the Bard's lesser-known works on offer.

The article did not mention that Winona is in the center of the Upper Mississippi River Viticulture Area witi 24 wineries within 75 miles and 3 within Winona County and one in the city of Winona atop Garvin Heights.

Come visit Garvin Heights Vineyards, Minnesota's most scenic winery, open daily except Mondays.

I moved to Winona in September and it's far from being a dump.  An incredible city with a rich history and offering much in the way of arts and culture.  Great for day trips or weekend trips.  Hell, do like I did.  Come for a visit and never leave.

Sure, visit for a day. Live there, and find out it's truly a dump
