After years of successfully running the highly acclaimed Mediterranean restaurant Saffron, this year James Beard Award Rising Star Chef nominee Sameh Wadi really proved the range and depth of his talent when he opened the brick-and-mortar outpost of World Street Kitchen, the popular food truck he owns with his brother. Wadi's hands move as deftly when braising veal breast and frying grape leaves as they do when rolling up a burrito stuffed with spicy red Thai curry. He is as precise as he is inventive, always seeking to give diners an array of global flavors, often combining them boldly in a single dish. Whether his food is served in a grandly glazed tagine or a recyclable paper tray, Wadi is particularly focused on achieving textural balance, making every bite of his food a layered experience that you won't soon forget.

Went to high school with him, not a year went by where he didn't start a fight and get his ass kicked.  total douchbag.

@VictorWow, did you just call out someone in their thirties for what they were like in high school? No one cares what he was like as a teenager…but you.

This guy is a complete hack.  I would love to see someone call him out for basically copying Mourad Lahlou's cookbook and putting it onto his menu.  Not to mention his piss poor treatment of employees, the fact he pays his cooks 11$ an hour, and still refuses to acknowledge anyone that has helped him get to where he is.

Disappointing choice for best chef, at best.  You should try to pick someone who doesn't steal recipes and is a good human.

@HollydauIf what you said was true, how is the staff of TWO full restaurants still working for the man? Are you saying all the people working for him aren't good enough to quit a job where they work for a “complete hack”? It sounds like you are dissing a lot of hard working, good people.
