Best Casino - 2013
Mystic Lake Casino
"Our casino is just the beginning," reads Mystic Lake's tagline, and for those who don't have a shirt to lose on gambling, that's important stuff. Though with about 4,000 electronic and table games in its nearly 140,000 square feet of gaming space there's plenty of gambling to be had, Mystic has a much bigger draw than just that. There's its beautiful hotel and spa, its championship-caliber golf course and adjoining fitness center, and of course, a darn good buffet. Its 2,100-seat Mystic Showroom is one of the best stages, casino or non-casino, in town, and the recent addition of an outdoor amphitheater is drawing even bigger acts to this casino in the warmer months. Oh, and you wanted to drink an adult beverage as you while away the hours gambling or attending a comedy show? Mystic recently joined the majority of Minnesota casinos in serving alcohol. Plus, its almost 3,000 employees would agree that this casino is more than just a casino; it's been an economic boon transforming what was once a distressed reservation into one of the most financially successful Indian tribes in the country. Today, the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux not only operate this venue, they also give back philanthropically to many communities throughout the state, donating over $258 million since 1996 to other tribes, charitable organizations, and schools, and contributing to the sustainability of its own reservation through projects like the Water Reclamation Facility and the Organics Recycling Facility, and through development of wind, solar, and geothermal energy production.
