Spring Street Tavern in Northeast could definitely be described as a dive, but just as Rihanna sings about finding love in a hopeless place, we sing the praises of Spring Street wings — a guilty pleasure that always tastes best when enjoyed in an atmosphere that's decidedly downscale. Spring Street's crispy-skinned buffalo wings are moist, meaty, and slathered in a buttery homemade buffalo sauce that has the slightly runny consistency down pat, delivering a fine balance of spice and vinegar. On the Scoville heat scale, they aren't the kind of wings that are an extreme challenge to finish, but what's the point in that anyway? Wings are meant to be dipped in thick, cooling blue cheese dressing (Spring Street makes its own, and it's chunky, sharp, and fabulous) and gobbled up. The signature Spring Wings are equally good, tossed in a sweet and hot barbecue sauce that will undoubtedly leave its mark on the corners of your mouth and linger in the corners of your mind.
I think that the Spring is awesome and I know for a fact that all their food IS homemade. That bar is a million times better than the Moose. It's a dive bar for christ's sake.....what do you expect for a bathroom? Try their breakfast and I bet you will go back every Sunday for it ;) Give the little guy some praise! It's a big deal and they deserve it. Love your neighbor and quit hatin'! You moved there.....Spring has been there since the 50's.
The Spring Street is incredibly frustrating because they *could* have a really awesome bar and restaurant, but the owners gave up on it years ago. And why wouldn't they? People keep singing their praises based on 'what was' or 'what might have been'. They are running off of nostalgic fumes at this point. Stop handing them undeserved praise like this, it only encourages them to stay in the rut they created for themselves.
$50 says they don't even update their "City Pages Winner" sign from 2006 to reflect this new award. Because they don't care.
Aside from the local drunks, I have a hard time believing that anything is "homemade" at the Spring Street. This bar is in serious need of being reinvented, something to differentiate from the Moose across the street would do wonders for the neighborhood.
you have got to be kidding. spring street is some serious nasty. i think the ladies bathroom stalls have not had working locks on the doors in at least 15 years. they can't even bring that place up to code to list it for sale from what i hear... i'm positive there are people that are ready to pounce on that spot if the dingy springstreet owner would just admit defeat and leave. sigh.
The signature wings are pretty bad (in my opinoin) I'm going to have to disagree on this one. You can't even taste the chicken with all the globs of sauce they put on them.
