Best Local Girl Made Good Minneapolis 2012 - Semonti Stephens

Readers' Choice: Dessa

It's hard to know whether working in the White House is anything like The West Wing, but some Minnesotans have firsthand details. One is Crystal native Semonti Stephens. As deputy communications director to First Lady Michelle Obama, Stephens participates in a variety of public events and juggles the daunting number of daily requests for face time with her boss. The Gustavus Adolphus College grad is no stranger to the role of media wrangler; she previously served as press secretary to Senator Amy Klobuchar and to then-senator Mark Dayton. Now Stephens is working in the most coveted of political inner circles, at the side of one of the most famous women in the world. Her mother, by the way, is Rita Mustaphi, known to many in the local dance community as artistic director of Katha Dance Theatre.

It takes a diverse array of qualities to be successful in such a job. Semonti has them all. She is just the type of person that a First Lady needs to help her through each day. I am guessing that Michelle Obama knows she won the lottery when she hired Semonti. I am guessing that Semonti has a great husband to support her in this challenging job! Many wishes for continued success! A good friend in Hastings.

Semonti, you are fabulous!
