With the emergence of so many new microbreweries, the Twin Cities beer scene has become so rich it's hard to pick just one. But even with all the newcomers, Surly is still the best beer in town. Last year Surly also became a political force at the state Capitol. With the help of a few brew-friendly politicians, Surly helped change one of Minnesota's most inane laws, which barred breweries from selling pints of their own beer. But politics aside, Surly continues to be the tastiest brew around. Take the Furious, for example, Surly's IPA, an icon of hoppy deliciousness. If that's not your thing, try the Bender, a malty brown ale with notes of oatmeal. Or, if you can get your hands on it, we highly recommend the elusive Surly Darkness, a Russian Imperial Stout rated one of the 50 best beers in the world by Ratebeer.com. Surly is sure to face new competition in years to come, but for now it's still the Twin Cities' finest alcoholic commodity.
