Best Fried Chicken - 2012
It seems illogical that a place called Pizza Ranch would have subpar pizza but awesome fried chicken. And yet, there you have it: Pizza Ranch has hands-down the juiciest, crispiest stuff around. The Midwest "fast casual" chain, which is the largest pizza franchise in Iowa, Minnesota, and North Dakota, is known for its buffet, where you can find the restaurant's trademark broasted "Crispy Ranch Chicken" alongside pizza, mashed potatoes, cactus bread (a dessert pizza), potato wedges, and green beans. Though you have to drive at least 20 miles from the center of Minneapolis to find the nearest franchise, it's worth the trip (in case you didn't catch this part, you get to eat pizza, fried chicken, and mashed potatoes. All at the same time). First started in 1981 in Hull, Iowa, Pizza Ranch is a Christian-based company, so if this sort of thing weirds you out, plan to avert your eyes from the prominently featured "mission" posters in their restaurants. Knowing this, it will come as little surprise that the chain was a popular stop for presidential candidates during the Iowa caucuses.
Please, you can do better than Pizza Ranch! This is the worst place I have ever eaten. What about Roosters in St Paul and A & J on Lake Street. You have to do better at picking this category. Don't pick a Chain.
what is the best non-chain, non-evangelical Minneapolis fried chicken from a business that is still actually operating?
