The original Muddy Waters Bar & Eatery in the Wedge neighborhood was known for its coffee. But things changed when it found new digs further south on Lyndale. The coffee is still excellent, and especially welcome in the mornings and afternoons, but the new location really comes alive in the evening, thanks in good part to the bar's excellent beer list, featuring 30 brews on tap. The beer menu has been curated by Surly alum Paddy Whelan, and every selection seems thoughtful. Here you'll find pints you most likely won't see anywhere else in Minnesota, including Stone Arrogant Bastard Ale, Great Lakes Nosferatu, Steel Toe Dissent, and Two Brothers Cane & Ebel. They've also got rising stars like Tallgrass Buffalo Sweat and local staples from Surly, Summit, and Grain Belt. Added bonus: When the weather turns warm, the outdoor patio is one of the cutest in the city.

mckenzies, blue nile, happy gnome, muddy pig, the hanger room (this place is srs bznzz for taps)... all these places rock the socks off of muddy waters.

dont get me wrong, muddy waters is good, but best beer list? hardly. some improvements the staff could make would be to keep their beer list up to date (ive had to go through 4 listed beers on a number of occasions to finally get to one that was on tap), and to educate the bar tenders / servers on the styles and tastes of beers on tap.

What a crock. Nothing against Muddy Waters, which has a decidedly GOOD list, but BEST list? Not a chance. 30 beers..30! 30 decent beers against Happy Gnome's ongoing list of 75 beers, the bulk of which you ca't see anywhere else in MN or most states for that matter. As for the beers listed in the article: Arrogant Bastard, Dissent, Nosferatu, and Cane & Ebel are currently on, or were on, lists at most beer pubs in town. Happy Gnome has a MUCH bigger selection which houses MUCH better beers (again, nothing against Muddy Waters or its tap list), but it's a crock that Happy Gnome did not receive this award.
