When the Chain of Lakes looks like a New York City sidewalk, it's time to hit the river. Both sides of the Mississippi River are replete with scenery, and the stretch between the Plymouth and Franklin Avenue bridges is among the most spectacular. On the West Bank, the Guthrie and the old Mill City overlook St. Anthony Falls and the Stone Arch Bridge; the eastern shore has the St. Anthony restaurant and entertainment complex atop the gorgeous exposed stone of the original parkway. Take a short detour on Nicollet Island, then across the Hennepin Avenue Bridge. Jog further south along the West Bank and the river path meanders through the lovely Seward neighborhood, and then ultimately down to Minnehaha Park and Falls. Summer or winter, if you've got miles to log, this is one of our most beautiful places to pound the pavement.
