Celebrating chocolate creations for the 16th year, Taste of Chocolate—held as a benefit for the Bloomington Center for the Arts—is all about the sweet goodness and innovativeness of our cities' pastry chefs. The only dessert contest in the Midwest, like a Food Network show come to life, pits chefs in competition in three categories: Dessert, Confection, and People's Choice. Taste countless samples and indulge in heavenly decadence. The 2011 winner for Dessert was Patisserie Margo's Darcia Nunes, with her "Sofya," a dome-shaped tower of sweet love, inspired by a trip to Turkey, with flavors of apricot, honey, and saffron, both beautiful and delicious. Kevin Lindee of Ganache: Truffles for Every Occasion took home the Confection prize with his "Chocolate Duet," flavored with pineapple and cilantro. And Pardon My French's Frederic Klein won the People's Choice award for his Feuillantine (a thin French pastry) Chocolate Cake. As the craft of fine chocolatiering becomes increasingly intricate, the event is a perfect place to witness that craftsmanship and relish new flavors.
