There aren't as many dedicated all-ages venues in the Twin Cities as there ought to be, which is a shame for a place with such a vibrant music scene for grown-ups. The good news is that many of the clubs recognize that the children are our future and open up their doors for all-ages shows on a regular basis. The Triple Rock on the West Bank is great about this, offering a steady stream of local bands and national tours to the younger set. Fresh-faced whippersnappers couldn't get their musical education at a better place—from its intimate stage to its dubious bathrooms, the Triple Rock is everything a rock club should be. The club gets bonus points for easy access to public transportation. Nothing harshes the buzz of an evening spent standing too close to the speakers like waiting for mom to come pick you up.
The Cedar has almost 200 shows a year and has been all ages for all shows for 22 years. And of course some of those concerts are specifically for the younger set. How did you miss this, again?Full disclosure: I work at The Cedar, and also like going to the Triple Rock.-jk
Seriously? The current T-Rock calendar lists only 3 all ages shows (through July). I find these Best Of's annually annoying. I mix of the obvious or the simply waaay off base. Sometimes I wonder if I live in the same town as you, City Pages.
