BEST VILLAIN Minneapolis 2010 - Michele Bachmann

Readers' Choice: Tim Pawlenty

City Pages sometimes gets reader feedback saying we focus too much attention on Michele Bachmann. But does Superman pay too much attention to Lex Luthor? Does Batman pay too much attention to the Joker? One villainess reigns supreme over Minnesota, and it's the crazy-mouthed congresswoman from Stillwater who crushes on Joe McCarthy and openly worries about the Obama administration creating "reeducation camps for young people." She keeps her title in 2010—despite stiff competition from an absentee governor and the publicly imploding Denny Hecker—thanks not just to her endless supply of nutty ideas but to her status as a figurehead of the Tea Party. Sure, she's stuck playing Jan to Sarah Palin's Marcia, but in terms of ideology it's the demon of District Six who wears the crown of Teabagger Queen. Her potent brand of anti-government paranoia is the distilled essence of the shaggy new radical right, with all its misspelled invectives and sweaty-browed fear. In the last year she's accused the president of imposing "tyranny" on an American people who "suffer and mourn" and even suggested that the 2010 U.S. Census was part of an ACORN conspiracy. She's the natural arch nemesis of any sensible Minnesotan, an embarrassment to the state and a danger to us all.

Who's the villian here? This is the first time I've ever read your paper and believe me I won't make that mistake a second time. You are horribly out of step to vilify Congresswoman Bachman!!

And you are one who voted for Al Franken to represent you in the Senate? AL FRANKEN?? This guy can't even spell! Do you realize how stupid the people of Minnesota look after electing Al Franken?? First it was the brainless Jessie Ventura - now Al Franken??? You people are truly eating too much mercury-laden pike-on-a-stick!!

The alleged "letter" from a teenager regarding "sex clinics" that Bachmann recently read on the floor of the House in her failed effort to defeat health care reform was one of the funniest things I have ever seen! The letter was an obvious fraud and was probably written by someone on Bachmann's own staff. It was nothing more than dumbed down propaganda. If the people in Minnesota re-elect Bachmann to Congress they should have their heads examined!

I cannot disagree with any part of this assessmenet of Bachmann. The woman is dangerously crazy and national embarrassment. She's a disgrace.Howver I will suggest that perhaps this year we were ready for co-winners: A villain and a villainess, perhaps.Tim Pawlenty isn't quite as stupid as Michele Bachmann, but he's as much a serious threat to our nation's health and well-being as Bachmann is. The ifference is Bachmann is advertising her freakish place in the human evolutionary chain while Pawlenty is more skilled at hiding his knuckle-dragging backwardness. Pawlenty also qualifies as a villain because his political positions aim at undoing all the benefits government gave to him and families like his just a generation ago. Who thinks this little man, the son of a delivery truck driver, would have had the benefits of great schools and public universities if we followed his narrow view of government's role in society? He has shown a kind of arrogance and petulance that should be left behind in student council politics, not state and national politics. And yet his star tends to rise. That is scary. I expect Bachmann to self destruct or get caught in a rainstorm and we'll be done with her, but Pawlenty hasn't gone overtly public with his wackiness. Let's be done with Tim Pawlenty, too. We need to call him out.

I am origionally from northern Minnesota living in Wisconsin and this woman is an embarassment.

Sure, Wisconsin has it's share of crazies but the only things this woman the chainsaw and mask.

I wish that the good people of Minnesota will have this lunatic Certified as Insane and put her away as a danger to herself ...and others before she hurts someone.

Leave Michelle Bachmann alone!! Michelle loves America in her own way. She is a true blue hero of the Tea Party movement and like all Teabaggers she is a Nabisco-American (it is impolite to call them 'Crackers'). People should bring Cheesewizz to her rallies and try to spray it on her with it.

Bachman is mentally ill and very dangerous. She sounds like a direct descendant of Adolph Hitler. Just think about it...how did the Nazi Party rise to power? Using the same tactics as this demonic woman.

I would think that the title of this blog - Dump Michele Bachmann - would be enough of a give-away, you know? Personally, I think she's lost most of her marbles. Honestly, the things she comes up with are beyond fringe.

Hear, Hear. As resident of Minnesota, every time that woman speaks I shudder. I'm not a native and am always explaining to my non-Minnesota friends how I can live here. Especially in light of the she-devil from Stillwater.
