A few things you'll notice when you first enter Donny Dirk's Zombie Den: The bartenders are dressed as Shaun of the Dead-style zombie hunters (a novelty that probably wore off for them long ago); stunning waitresses in long, black Morticia Addams dresses are serving you drinks in big goblets; a tempting chainsaw is hanging on the wall in a glass case, just in case of a zombie apocalypse. Formerly the oft-troublesome Stand Up Frank's, the north Minneapolis bar was resurrected last summer by Leslie Bock, owner of Psycho Suzi's and Saint Sabrina's. Based on how long it takes to get a goddamn place to sit, it seems to be doing well—and with good reason. The surprisingly classy zombie theme is executed to perfection. There is something ominously relaxing about watching graphic imagery of zombie kill scenes in movies like Night of the Living Dead and 28 Days Later while knocking back a few pints—or, if you please, a rotating menu of zombie-themed cocktails. The place makes you almost hope a zombie attack does hit Minneapolis, if only for a chance to use the weapons hanging on the walls.
