Best Staycation - 2010
In these recessionary days, when deciding on a downsized getaway one must consider a few key elements for staycation bliss: keeping the kids entertained (and not focused on the fact that they aren't going to Disney World), good eating (if you're not buying plane tickets, you may as well splurge on a good meal), and entertainment for mom and dad. With these needs in mind, Twin Cities residents seeking a local holiday should look no further than Bloomington. We know it sounds weird, but consider our criteria. Kids: Staying at Water Park of America, just a stone's throw from the Mall of America, will keep the kids squealing with joy (and mercifully tucker them out). Eats: In addition to the oodles of family dining in hotels and the Mall of America, nearby upscale eateries include Ciao Bella and Bloomington Chophouse. Grown-up fun: There's plenty of shopping and bars in the area, and Braemar Golf Course is a short drive away. It's not the most exotic getaway, but it's affordable and entertaining.
