BEST PLACE TO LEARN TO DANCE Minneapolis 2010 - Zenon Dance Company and School
Gotta get your groove on but don't have the moves? Help is available on the fourth floor of the Hennepin Center for the Arts. Zenon Dance Company and School trains dancers of all ages and skill levels, and while the classes are a good value (individual rates start below $15, and class cards or package deals are available), the best reason to visit the studio is the fine faculty. Its modern-dance teachers include Sage Award winners Erin Thompson and ARENA Dances artistic director Mathew Janczewski, not to mention beginning/advanced-beginning class maestro John Munger (who throws in the occasional dance-history lecture for good measure). B-boy battler J-Sun Noer shares his hip-hop and breakdancing know-how, while HIJACK's Kristin Van Loon and Arwen Wilder lead a contact improvisation jam, Judith James Ries gets the rhythm rolling with lively jazz routines, and Becky Stanchfield rules the ballet barre. Other classes include African dance, Afro-modern, ballroom, dance composition, house dance, tap, yoga, and creative movement for youth.
