While the Minneapolis Central Library brings the oomph to the city's library system, there's something to be said about a small neighborhood space in which to cuddle up with a good book. Check out the Franklin Library, a wonderful meeting place blocks from the Franklin light rail stop. The library was renovated and reopened in 2005 to keep its old-school charm while updating for new needs. Cozy chairs are placed throughout the building, some in front of fireplaces. Plenty of natural light creates a vibe that makes you content to read alone for hours. The Franklin Library has been known as a gathering place for immigrants since it was built in 1914, so you'll see plenty of new city residents learning English and taking advantage of public services. The library features collections in Spanish, Somali, Oromo, Ojibwe, and Arabic. It's open Tuesday through Saturday.

Appreciate the "Best Library" title! Please note Franklin Library's phone number is 952-847-2925 and, with the January 2008 merger of Hennepin County Library and Minneapolis Public Library systems,it has been a Hennepin County Library since.
