There was a collective panic in the science fiction, fantasy, and comic-book communities when Dreamhaven owner Greg Ketter announced he was closing the store's venerable Uptown location. Thankfully, it wasn't an end—just another transition for the longstanding shop that has survived several moves in the past. Now located farther southeast than before, the offerings are still very much the same. You can find current comic-book offerings, numerous copies of books by local and local-ish genre writers like Lois McMaster Bujold and Steven Brust, along with magazines, CDs, posters, and other genre-related ephemera. For more than two decades, Dreamhaven has provided an inviting home for lovers of genre fiction. Along with current releases, the store specializes in imports, out-of-print titles, and forgotten gems. Have a hankering for a 1970s science-fiction anthology, or the collected letters of H.P. Lovecraft? Dreamhaven's a good place to start. And the store, due to its support since his earliest days as a writer, is the go-to place for signed and off-the-beaten-path publications by current "it" author Neil Gaiman.
