Readers' Choice: First Avenue
Look, 7th St. Entry has a lot working against it. First, it's downtown, and heading there to see AIDS Wolf on a Saturday night puts you butts-to-bollocks with bumper-to-bumper traffic and throngs of people on their way from the Wolves game to the Hard Rock Cafe. There's parking to contend with, panhandlers to dodge, and god forbid you should be struck by an impending bowel movement once you make it inside. But from open to close, a 7th St. Entry show provides the finest environment to blow out your eardrums. The sound is always top-notch, and even a moderate crowd makes the space feel packed to the gills. At the Entry, everyone wins, and a venue of its size and reputation means you'll always be within smelling distance of some heavy-hitting local and national acts. The Mainroom might get all the starry-eyed glances, but take our word for it—seeing the Locust at the Entry beats the snot out of seeing the Yeah Yeah Yeahs in the Mainroom.
