Best Library Minneapolis 2009 - Rondo Community Outreach Library
Neighborhood libraries are popular destinations these days—the books are free, the computers are waiting, and you can stay all day working on a project or just getting lost in a story. What makes the Rondo Community Outreach Library so appealing is how it's transformed a previously underutilized corner in a neighborhood that has undergone significant transition over the years. The well-designed building acts as a hub, drawing in people eager to engage its services. It has plenty of books, of course, but the library also offers an extensive schedule of classes—English, GED tutoring, computer skills, support for entrepreneurs—and for youngsters there's good old-fashioned story time. There's also a homework center for local students and a meeting rooms for community groups. Best of all, Rondo is open every day. Here's hoping more libraries can throw open their doors each day of the week. We need them now more than ever.
