Readers' Choice: The Local
No disrespect to Minneapolis's myriad Gaelic-flavored watering holes, but when it comes to Irish pubs, you might want to look across the river to the one Twin City that actually boasts an Irish Catholic history. Walk inside the dimly lit, dark wooden interior of the Liffey, kitty-corner from the Xcel Energy Center, and you'll encounter a tastefully understated Celtic atmosphere, with gritty black-and-white photos of the motherland adorning the walls. Whoop it up at the bar or sneak away into one of the secluded booths and wash down your fish and chips or shepherd's pie with one of the 12 beers on tap. Or if you really want to get bolloxed, go with the Liffey's signature drink, the Big Ginger: a (un)healthy amount of Jameson and ginger ale poured over rocks and garnished with a lemon and lime. Once the weather warms up, grab a pint of Finnegan's and head to the spacious patio, where you can drink in a decent view along with your ale.
