A critical and often overlooked criterion of happy hours has to do with timing. Sure, two-for-one cocktails are delightful after work, but early evenings aren't exactly the optimal or most responsible time to milk happy hours for all they're worth. At Uptown's Bar Abilene, happy hours thankfully align with the drunk-friendliest hours of the evening. Every night between 9 and 11 p.m., the bar's generally youngish, sharp-dressed customers chase their $2 shots-of-the-day with half-priced beers (or margaritas). Specials on appetizers abound. Then there's "crazy hour," 4 to 6 p.m. weekdays, during which everything is half-off. Things get ridiculous on Sunday nights, with $1 pints of Dos Equis, Miller Lite, and Michelob Golden Light between 9 and 10 p.m. If nothing else, think of it as a cheap way to get your buzz on before catching a flick at the Uptown Theatre or Lagoon Cinema, both of which are conveniently located within crawling distance.
