Located in the Sibley Plaza shopping mall along the West Seventh Street corridor where many a treasured but unknown restaurant lives, Queen of Sheba makes you feel like you just discovered a secret gem. Bring all your friends to share traditional communal-style platters that allow you to sample almost everything on the menu for about $8 a person. You will be greeted with the sweet graciousness of a family-run restaurant and treated to a meal of injera (spongy Ethiopian bread), buttermilk cheese, endless varieties of tartars, and specialties like felasha (lamb on the bone seared with garlic and ginger) and "Ethiopia's national dish," doro watt (free-range chicken drumsticks and hard-boiled eggs simmered in red pepper sauce). Another fine quality of Ethiopian dining, the plentiful vegetarian options, is well represented here, too. With lively African music playing, children laughing, and groups of regulars congregating at the bar and pool table, the atmosphere here is comfortable and fun—just what you look for in a secret gem.
