It's such a humble-looking thing, Rustica Bakery's bittersweet chocolate cookie: black as midnight and sprinkled with sugar granules that twinkle like stars against the night sky. Your first bite breaks through a crisp, delicate crust to reveal a brownie-soft center—something you can really sink your teeth into. Its rich cocoa flavor is just slightly sweet and touched with a faint, molasses-y bitterness. A pinch of salt enhances the impact of dark-chocolate chunks that resemble the buttery ganache core of a truffle. These confections are so intense it's like an entire chocolate cake condensed into a cookie. There may not be a better cookie on Earth, including those Elvis cookies with the peanut butter, banana, and bacon. Note, too, that the bittersweet chocolate cookies are available in bundles of six, so don't even bother buying just one.
