Grand Rounds, from Lake Calhoun to Minnehaha Park

In the Land of 10,000 Lakes, and the birthplace of North America's mightiest river, it's only fitting that the Twin Cities' best bike trail should highlight our close relationship with water. Indeed, on this roughly 20-mile trail from Lake Calhoun to Minnehaha Park, you're hardly out of sight of the stuff. From the north end, near Uptown, the trail follows the meandering Minnehaha Creek along the iconic Chain of Lakes: Calhoun, Harriet, Nokomis, Hiawatha, and on to Minnehaha Falls. The lush beauty allows you to start anywhere—there's not a dull stretch on the trail—and tailor your ride to your fitness level. Whether you're a casual Sunday rider or serious calorie-burner, make time to stop at one of the great eateries along the way: Barbette in Uptown, Grand Ole Creamery at Cedar and Minnehaha Parkway, or the Sea Salt Eatery by Minnehaha Falls. While hardcore cyclists may be frustrated by the street crossings, joggers, and strolling pedestrians, everyone else will find lots to love on one of the nation's most beautiful urban bikeways. In fact, on a warm summer day, with a gentle breeze blowing and the sun strewing jewels across the lakes, you might consider yourself one of the luckiest people on earth. And you will be.
