Walker Art Center's Summer Music and Movies

Yeah, this one is a no-brainer—the Walker Art Center has consistently put together the best outdoor movie series in the Twin Cities every summer since 1976. Usually starting mid-July and running through August, these Loring Park screenings aren't your typical kiddie-movie-on-a-lousy-screen gig. Each year the Walker selects a theme, such as 2006's "Screwball Masters: Sturges, Hawks, and Cukor," or the melodrama and film noir theme of 2005. Local bands like Doomtree, Melodious Owl, and Tapes 'n Tapes have stopped by to perform music sets, with shorts and funny educational and propaganda films starting up before the main show at dusk. So bring a blanket, some bug spray, and a few dollars for a snow cone (and a flask of whiskey, if that's your thing).
