Comments (0) BEST MINNESOTA THUNDER PLAYER - 2008

Nic Platter

In what was otherwise a miserable campaign for the Minnesota Thunder, with the team missing the playoffs for the third straight season, goalkeeper Nic Platter was a revelation. The University of California at Davis product, having endured two years on the bench as a little-used backup, took over between the pipes from veteran Joe Warren midway through the season. Starting 18 matches, el Disco (as he's affectionately known to the team's supporters) allowed a minuscule 1.17 goals per game, while coming up with 85 saves. Many of these were of the spectacular variety, with Platter using his hamster-quick reflexes to deflect shot after shot that looked destined for the back of the net. Under new ownership, the Thunder's roster has been substantially overhauled (and hopefully upgraded) in the offseason. But with Warren retiring after last season, Platter should finally have the goalkeeper position to himself.
