Twin Cities Gay Hockey Association

If you grew up in a hockey-crazed Twin Cities suburb, you'd be forgiven for remembering the sport of hockey as something less than a bastion of tolerance. In fact, if you ran with the hockey players—or just ran into them in the halls—you'd be forgiven for only remembering the date-rape rumors and the gay jokes. But this is Minnesota, and, by golly, you want to play some hockey. You're in luck. Meet the Twin Cities Gay Hockey Association, now in its sixth year. The idea behind the league, founders say, was not to create a ghetto for gay hockey players, but to build a league where discrimination against gay players was impossible. Straight players are welcome. Need to brush up? The TCGHA even has a skills class. Hockey, there's hope for you yet.
