BEST BURRITO - 2008
Taqueria Los Ocampo
Choosing the best burrito is a daunting assignment, since there are many worthy competitors, including perennial favorite El Burrito Mercado in St. Paul. But this year belongs to the robust burritos of Taqueria Los Ocampo. First, these bad boys are huge, so you'll likely get two meals out of one, and their flavor is equally super-sized. Los Ocampo offers a variety of fillings, including chorizo, steak, roast pork, and veggies, but the best choice is the zesty Mexican-style chicken (with onions, tomato, and chiles). The filling not only offers a kick-start to the taste buds, but the chicken is fresh and pairs well with the creamy rice and beans. Los Ocampo doesn't skimp on the cilantro (a plus in our book), and the cheese, while present, doesn't smother the other tastes. The smooth green sauce, applied liberally, offers yet another layer of flavor. While at Los Ocampo be sure to sample their other excellent dishes, including the delicious huarache de costilla (featuring homemade masa cake) and the fragrant pozole, a traditional spicy soup served with tostadas.
