Diablo Cody

Let's get the disclosure out of the way right now. Diablo Cody has written more than 50 pieces for City Pages since 2004, and her popular blog, Pussy Ranch, is a part of this newspaper's multimedia empire. These two accomplishments, while definitely noteworthy, would rank at the bottom of Ms. Cody's résumé in light of recent achievements. Her memoir about a year spent navigating various Twin Cities stripper poles, Candy Girl, was released in late December 2005 to rave reviews and brisk sales. During a March 2006 appearance on The Late Show, David Letterman declared it the inaugural pick of "Dave's Book Club." Her first screenplay, Juno, was green-lit and is currently shooting in Vancouver with Jason Reitman (Thank You for Smoking) directing and Jennifer Garner, Ellen Page, Jason Bateman, and Allison Janney starring. Meetings with Oliver Stone, John Malkovich, and other show-biz big shots bode well for future screenwriting gigs. The year wrapped with a deal to write a Showtime series, to be developed by DreamWorks TV, following a meeting with Oscar-winning director Steven Spielberg. Has all this success prompted Ms. Cody to go all Britney/Lindsay batshit-crazy Hollywood? No, this suburban Chicago transplant is still joyfully ensconced in suburban Minneapolis, keepin' it real with hubby, stepdaughter, chunky cats, and weird Canadian potato chips.
