Prudence Johnson

Soulful and skillful in a range of genres, Johnson is a double-decade veteran of the Twin Cities music scene. Over the years, she's released albums of jazz, up-tempo folk (through Red House Records), and American songwriting staples. With an effortlessly lilting voice that glides over melodies like newly sharpened skates on fresh pond ice, the sultry chanteuse can claim fans from every pocket of the sonic universe. Of late, Saturdays find Johnson performing on Garrison Keillor's A Prairie Home Companion. But Fitz fans may be surprised by what they'll hear on her fall album: The McKnight Fellowship winner's next project involves musical interpretations of the poems of Edna St. Vincent Millay. Guy's All-Star Shoe Band, it ain't.
