BEST PLACE TO WATCH A MOVIE OUTDOORSStevens Square Park
Corner of 18th Street East and Second Avenue South Minneapolis 612.879.0200
Come summertime, movies in the park are a religion in these parts. The most progressive congregants worship at Stevens Square, where the crowds are refreshingly diverse and the ongoing theme is "Cinema and Civics." Last year, the series—run by the Stevens Square Community Organization and the Stevens Square Center for the Arts—unspooled several worthy political films, including Billy Golfus's historic local doc about disability rights activism, When Billy Broke His Head (and Other Tales of Wonder). This year's series is subtitled "Come Together!" and in addition to ensemble crowd-pleasers such as Waiting for Guffman, Ghostbusters, and The Magnificent Seven, it features the joint efforts of local artists, musicians, and community organizations. The Stevens Square season kicks off with the Red Hot Art Festival on June 2 and 3, followed by the first flick on Wednesday, June 6.
