Big Rivers Regional Trail

This trail consists of four and a half miles of two-lane blacktop tracing the northern edge of Dakota County. The view from the west showcases the Mississippi and Minnesota Rivers, which converge at mile three. The eastern side is full of trees, rock walls, and a sprawling cemetery speckled with green and red wreaths. Runners can take a breather at one of a handful of educational signs that provide information on the local animal habitat and ruins from a Depression-era work camp. The Eagan end of the trail has a port-a-potty and a parking lot with 24 spaces. There's also plenty of street parking all along the path, which follows Highway 13. In addition to jogging, visitors can cross-country ski during the winter months or hike at both ends of the trail. If four miles isn't enough, Big Rivers links up with longer paths such as the 72-mile Mississippi National River and Recreation Area.
