Cuzzy's

For a decade, more City Pages paychecks have gone toward propping up this unglamorous bar on Washington Avenue North than any other joint in town. But, alas, we've never quite come up with the right way to show appreciation for the place some of us affectionately call Scuzzy's, and others of us call our home away from...well, how about just our home? But something happened to the North Loop neighborhood in the last decade; namely, thanks to the downtown housing boom, it actually became a neighborhood. As upscale as the North Loop has become, Cuzzy's, with its wood-paneled walls stapled with dollar bills and a staff that's literally like family (the owners are cousins, see), is one sight that's welcome to sore eyes. The regulars are a diverse bunch, the drinks are always affordable, and the menu—for breakfast, lunch, or dinner—goes well beyond mere snack food. Bars downtown and in the Warehouse District come and go, but Cuzzy's is as reliable as a bottle of Bud. We come to Cuzzy's not only because we can almost roll here from the office, but because, at the end of the day, it's one of the best bars in any neighborhood.
