For city dwellers, Lakewinds Natural Grocery locations may seem like a trek. But for those rocking the suburbs, Lakewinds is the promised land. Stores include the usual natural grocer amenities: fun and practical bulk goods, locally made hummus and dips, and a farmers' market-quality produce section. But Lakewinds also offers unique items such as wood-fired pizza made to order (or purchased by the slice) at the Minnetonka location, and an artisan bake house at the Chanhassen location (which ships to other stores as well). Like most natural grocers, Lakewinds has a tasty and fresh salad and olive bar, but they also have a great "hot bar" as well (these last two are not available in Anoka). Regular items can be found online, and rotating daily specials include things like roasted vegetables, grilled sandwiches, chicken chow mein, millet loaf, and more. There's a mind-boggling variety of items for people with special dietary needs, like gluten-free pizza crusts, vegan cheese, organic wheatgrass juice, and a meat and seafood selection large and varied enough to sate any carnivore. Some locations also offer classes on healthy living—although you'd be hard-pressed to leave Lakewinds without a bagful of nutritious food.
