BEST CHOCOLATE Minneapolis 2007 - Legacy Chocolates - CLOSED
Real chocolate is the new health food these days and even mainstream producers like Hershey's are pumping up the cocoa content in order to attract consumers who seek to satisfy more than a mid-afternoon sugar jones. Legacy Chocolates, with locations in St. Paul and Menomonie, Wisconsin, has a bit of an edge on its competition. Its potent little pretties, with up to 85 percent cacao solids, boast some of the greatest concentrations of healthy flavanols—a trendy antioxidant. None of these statistics would matter, of course, if the chocolates didn't taste good, and Legacy definitely lives up to its motto of "bringing peace, love, and happiness, one truffle at a time." Their truffles ($1.60 per piece) are dense but creamy and coated with silky chocolate. The flavors, which change daily and include champagne, orangecello, caramel pecan, mint, espresso, pistachio, and Cointreau, never overpower the chocolate, making a transcendent complement instead. So here's permission to indulge, just a bit, after pounding out those miles on the treadmill. Your ticker, or at least your taste buds, will thank you.
