You can't throw a rock in this town without hitting a karaoke night. This probably has something to do with the fact that when you throw that rock, you'll probably nail some poor musician as well. And that sad, injured bassist is probably on her way to Staraoke at Grumpy's downtown. Why Staraoke? Well, we can start with the iconic, wig-donning, vintage-dress-wearing Arzu Gokcen, who's recently doubled her song catalog. But you need more than a legendary hostess and a massive supply of tunes to have a bangin' karaoke night. The crowds at Grumpy's every Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday complete the circle. Whether you're up there wailing your heart out about "Sweet Caroline," or explaining in no uncertain terms that "a bitch ain't one" of your "99 Problems," you'll never feel judged or mocked. Staraoke regulars don't take the spotlight too seriously; they're just having a good time. Still, some of those performances will blow you away, making you wonder why that person isn't in a band. Upon remembering where you live, you'll realize the singer is probably in the same band as that bassist you unwittingly threw a rock at. Then you'll take your turn onstage, secure in the fact that no one in the crowd will be throwing rocks at you, no matter how badly you sing.
