BEST NEIGHBORHOOD CAFÉ--ST. PAUL Minneapolis 2005 - Coffee News Cafe - CLOSED
Situated next to a well-traveled area of the Macalester College campus, this café serves several functions: It's primarily a caffeine destination for college students and professors, but it's also a pit stop for Grand Avenue shoppers, and a casual meeting place for friendly neighborhood hippies. Inside you'll find classic coffeehouse decor: exposed brickwork, stained glass, wood floors, and sunny yellow walls adorned with paintings by local artists. And true to its moniker, Coffee News knows all about beans--it serves up over 15 varieties roasted on the premises, with two or three specialty brews rotating daily. In search of something less caffeinated? Order up a French or Italian soda with a shot of flavored syrup. Yummy sandwiches include turkey with avocado, blue cheese, and veggies; grilled mozzarella with tomato; and vegetarian-friendly hummus. Each is served up with a gigantic serving of fries, golden and loaded with chunks of garlic and salt. Be sure to check out Coffee News in the summertime when its outdoor dining becomes prime real estate.
