We're fortunate to have a trio of destinations for fine Greek dining, including perennial favorite Christos on Eat Street and the jewel-like Gardens of Salonica in northeast Minneapolis, but this year Lyn-Lake landmark It's Greek to Me earns top honors for its dependably delicious menu, generous waitstaff, intriguing wine list, and increasingly pretty surroundings (the patio abutting the Jungle Theater is genius). The simple Greek salad and spanakopita (spinach pie) always make for a fine meal, but there is also the celebratory saganaki (flaming cheese accompanied by a joyful Opa!), the meaty gyros, complex souvlaki, robust dolmades, and various platters including seafood, spicy lamb, and various specials of the day. You will also be stopped in your tracks by the array of desserts purposely displayed near the door: baklava, creamy cakes, and other treats that perfectly pair the sweet with the savory. Despite the upscaling of the Uptown area, this spot remains a casual neighborhood destination with true staying power. Here's hoping the northeast corner of Lake and Lyndale will always remain Greek to us.
