BEST LYNX PLAYER - 2003
Man, you have to feel for Katie Smith. Here she is, one of the elite players in WNBA history, a versatile scorer who easily notches 18 points per game, and she's playing for a team that, at the end of its fourth season, was still languishing in the league's basement. Of course, the Lynx' woes are largely beyond Smith's or any other player's control: First there was the trade that sent Betty Lennox to Miami; then there were Svetlana Abrosimova's nagging injuries; and then there was a mid-season coaching change. Add to all that the team's lack of veteran savvy, and it's hard to imagine how the Lynx will flip the script next season. Even so, as long as Smith is still around and pouring in the threes, hope springs eternal.
