BEST COMIC BOOK SHOP - 2003
Comic Book College
There's been a comic book store at the corner of 32nd Street and Hennepin Avenue South for three decades. No matter the ownership or configuration, the basic operation has never changed. It's always remained a well-stocked store run by friendly folks who know more about comics than is psychologically or socially healthy. The most recent, downsized version is a cramped space stuffed to overflowing with comic books and pop culture detritus. There's box after box of the DC and Marvel classics, as well as more recent offerings that range from the emo-comic Palookaville to the kung fu adventures of The Bulletproof Monk. For those seeking more heady fare, Comic College also stocks an admirable selection of graphic books like Joe Sacco's Safe Area Gorazde and Art Spiegelman's classic Maus. Plenty of other useless, but irresistible crap can be had too: Green Lantern action figures, Osbournes bobbleheads, and a massive assortment of Simpsons collectibles.
