BEST TAKEOUT - 2002
This St. Paul institution might be a little too far off the beaten path for power lunchers. But, hey, the category isn't "most utilitarian takeout." And besides, with an inexpensive, tasty, and ever-changing selection of treats, El Burrito's homey cafeteria is worth a little extra effort. The burritos, gorditas, and tamales are perennial favorites, and a meal with rice, beans, and fresh homemade tortillas will set you back only about five bucks. For early risers, huevos con chorizo and the like are simple, fast, and hearty ways to start the day. Factor in the mercado's wide selection of snacks and soft drinks, and El Burrito is one of the best to-go options around. If you can't find something to nosh on here, you're just not trying.
