BEST LATINO GROCERY - 2002
¡Caramba! We searched mightily for a smaller underdog market to upset perennial winner El Burrito. The Mercado Central complex in Minneapolis impresses with its freshly made tortillas and sugary cookie selection, as do the Las Americas stores with their excellent assortment of hard-to-find items. But at the end of the day, El Burrito still rules. In fact, this Concord Street institution is so overwhelming that it reduces visitors to a string of superlatives and exclamations. The widest variety of chiles! The freshest meats! The most beautiful indigenous produce! Eventually the superlatives grow, well, ridiculous. The most exhaustive assortment of beans--an entire half-aisle's worth of bags! Now, as before, El Burrito es lo mejor.
