Readers' Choice: The Wilds Golf Club

One of the oldest public golf courses in the state, this 18-hole stretch is a city gem, smack in the middle of one of Minneapolis's largest parks. After you stop into the Swiss-chalet-style clubhouse, you'll enjoy the sun, the hills (walking the course can provide you a solid physical workout), and the stunning views of the downtown Minneapolis skyline--all while playing a course that's as challenging as it is charming. The front nine, set around Bassett Creek, incorporates a variety of challenging obstacles, from marshes and railroad tracks to manmade lagoons. The back nine, tucked along wooded, rolling hills, will test the skills of even the most seasoned of golfers, regardless of handicap. It's no wonder local linksters love this course; it's tough but true, so you won't feel the need to dunk your clubs in the creek. It's also a bargain: 18 holes cost $25 Monday through Thursday, $27 Friday through Sunday.
