Comments (0) BEST BAND TO LEAVE THE TWIN CITIES IN THE PAST 12 MONTHS - 2002

Tulip Sweet

It just doesn't seem fair that Tulip Sweet's Steph Dickson is now singing "'Scuze me for livin' and pukin' up beans on the grass!" in some dive bar in Brooklyn. I mean, come on! They don't even have grass in New York City! (Except, of course, for that crazy, smoky kind.) In any case, we'll miss watching the Muppet-like chanteuse belt out her creepy nursery rhymes while Tom Siler noodles a jumpy cabaret tune on the keyboards. We'll drunkenly voice nostalgic tributes to Tulip Sweet's new-wave ass-tattooing songs, her sick puppet-show themes, and her titty-sucking blooze numbers. We'll reminisce about the time Dickson urged a crowd of Bedlam Theater inhabitants to get naked, which led to some deranged fan running up and smacking her hard on the keister. But just when we're growing truly bitter, we'll remember that in her song "Rising Action," Dickson sings, "This is my purpose, to be famous and happy." Well, maybe it was hard for her to accomplish those lofty goals in little ol' Minnesota. But if Dickson and Co. ever want to return for a homecoming party, we'll happily clear off our lawns in preparation.
